Wouldn’t be hard. Apple sure did launch a half-baked idea. Here’s what I wish Ping was:

  • Curated channels/stores that people could subscribe to (ie: itunes.com/yvynyl) that also give us a percentage of the revenue for hustling your wares.
  • Custom playlists and mixtapes, goddamnit. How hard is…

Yvynyl breaks down the simple, obvious things Ping could have done to create a good community and a cool social network. I haven’t really looked into it, but it’s about as bad as I was expecting. There’s no web interface for it?

I’m guessing over the next several months or years we’re going to hear a lot of excuses about why, for example, we can’t create custom playlists—not because Apple doesn’t want you to, but because the record labels don’t want you to! Well any time you say “because the record labels don’t want you to”, that’s a shitty fucking excuse, and I’ll continue downloading it for free on my own without you.
