Tumblize
Wow, lots of buzz around Tumblize today. Those guys that, for “just $999” will supply you with a brand new theme for your tumblelog. No, seriously, it’s just $999. For a one-page design. Oh, and it was something like $500 last time I looked, which means I must really have underestimated how stupid people are.
Obviously, these guys are catering to rich, stupid people. Since a) no one except someone really stupid pays $999 for a one-page design, and b) except rich people with more money than sense.
That said, these guys are pros. Know how I know that? Look at this, from one of the tumblelogs they take credit for:
And here it is in Internet Explorer, too:
Somehow, even worse.
Do yourself a favour and ask Bill Israel or Cameron, whose charges start at around $200 and $400 respectively, instead. (Or even me, for $200.) You know, unless you want to get ripped off.
Oh, and guys, again, it’s a tumblelog, not a Tumblr. The same way my photos on Flickr are just photos, not Flickrs.
Browser testing is one of the most basic tasks a quality web designer must be doing. This is the kind of work you’d expect of your 14-years-old web designer nephew who’s doing it for “portfolio experience.” If you’re getting the same results, you may as well go with the better price.
Better yet, go with the recommendations above and get a quality layout in the first place.
